your boss that before the person is (possibly) hired What if you worked with the person and know first hand that they are a terrible worker, negative, unproductive and disruptive. Would you tell HR or whoever does the hiring? It's like saying something or not saying something is bad either way...so what would you do? This is a question that a coworker asked me and I have no idea what I would do, so what would you do?

If I knew for a fact that they were bad at the job I would deliver an anonymous tip to the hiring depatrment. That way they knew the truth about the person, but not who told them, so I (the other person they are considering) would not look bad. Hope this helps!

YOu are in a tough position, legally you can't give a bad reference you can only state that they worked with you and give a time line. Thats usually warning enough that the person in question is not a good worker. YOur walking a fine line if you come out and say something without them asking you first. Its sounds like you really care about the company you work for If I were you I would mention in passing that you worked with the person but I wouldn't say anything negative, any smart HR person would know there is an issue with this person's work ethic if all you say is a "bland...Yes I worked with her. And leave it at that. What if they hire her and she turns out to really shine in this position then you would look like the negative one. There are many ways of saying something without actually saying if you know what I mean. Good luck to you.

Do not say anything or have you been asked for your judgement if not be quite,,,as The boss is the boss and should have hiring skills and judgement in who would be the right person for the job,

It would be tempting to tell HR. if it wouldn't reflect on you personally or affect your job. It could, so be quiet. The HR. people will find out soon enough, through reference and background checks. If they hire the person, the "sheet will wash itself".

don't say anything, just let the UNqualified person interview. you are not the hiring manager. if the person is really that bad, it will show in time. just do your job and keep it moving.

It's not you responsibility to tattle. Your HR people should be able to weed out the bad ones.

I don't know if I would say anything, because then you risk looking like a complainer.
