I have 2 hardrives my main one is 80Gb with all my operating system and stuff on. I have recently connected my old one as a slave its 10Gb and makes a whirring sound...I was wandering if there is a way to disable it and enable it without going into the bios and having to re-boot all the time, anyone got any ideas?

Thanks Hector i think your right my 80Gb is a Maxtor diamond max and doesnt make a sound, its just that i do alot of video converting on it and get sick of de-fragging it all the time, i reckon ill probably just do away with the 10Gb the noise does my head in.

Have a look here for general info. on hard-drives: http://www.helpwithpcs.com/courses/hard-drive-basics.htm I would change the 10Gb drive for one with a much higher capacity, 80Gb, 160Gb, plus, especially if you do a lot of graphics and video work. Also, why not consider using a USB external hard-drive? Some info. here: http://www.2ndchancepc.co.uk/usb-firewire-enclosure.html

You can go into the properties, either in the Device Manager or right click on the drive in My Computer and go to properties then general and disable the drive.
You can pickup a 80GB for $50. "H" is right. Ditch the 10gb and replace it. If it is singing to you it won't be log before it fails.
