I'd say the Boston Celtics of the 60s were the greatest team ever. They won nine championships in that decade, I believe. As far as the greatest player, it depends on the position. It's hard to compare a center to a guard. However, if I had to choose one player to call the greatest I would probably pick Wilt Chamberlain. Over 31k points almost 24k rebounds. The only blemish he really had was his awful free throw percentage. That's my opinion, anyway.

The 1985-86 Celtics would have crushed any of Jordan's Bulls teams. It wouldn't even be close. Longley, Kukoc and Pippen would stop Parish, McHale, Bill Walton and Bird?!? Give me a break.
The 86-87 Lakers were a great team, with Magic and Kareem at their best. So were the 71 Lakers, with Wilt, West and Baylor(33 wins in a row!).
The 1966-67 76ers were also a powerful team, with Wilt, Hal Greer and Luke Jackson. Any of these teams would beat the 90's Bulls.
I'll say the 85-86 Celtics as the best team, and Bird as the greatest all around player. Magic, Wilt, Russell and Kareem are close behind though.

The best NBA team of all time has to be the 96 bulls, they had Jordan, pippen, Rodman, Kukoc, Ron harper, Kerr, etc. They could outscore you, but also can put the clamps on you defensively. Harper turned into a great defender while he was on the bulls. Pippen can score 20 a night and get 7 boards and 6 assist and was the best defender probably in the game at the time. Rodman would get 15 boards a night and would watch the best post player. they had great role players off the bench. and of course Jordan who is the greatest player ever to play the game.

This is a good question.
Best team: I would have to say the '87 or "88 Los Angeles Lakers.
Best Player: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (#1 points all-time and played for 20+ years). 5 Time MVP.
Also, *When Kareem Abdul-Jabbar left the game in 1989 at age 42, no NBA player had ever scored more points, blocked more shots, won more MVP awards, played in more All-Star Games, or logged more seasons. His list of personal and team accomplishments is perhaps the most awesome in league history: Rookie of the Year, member of six NBA championship teams, six-time NBA MVP, two-time NBA Finals MVP, 19-time All-Star, two-time scoring champ, and a member of the NBA 35th and 50th Anniversary All-Time
*http://www.nba.com/history/players/abduljabbar_summary.html)
For all you MJ people who love stats look at Kareem's stats - they speak volumes about his consistency and conditioning. No doubt MJ is one of the best. But I place him 3rd behind Kareem and Wilt. These two Big men, like MJ, revolutionized their sport. No one, not even MJ, had the Sky Hook Kareem had. It was money in the bank when he went to the Sky Hook.

the celtics of 1986-86. Bird, McHale, Parish. The greatest frontcourt ever to play the game. bill russell is the greatest player ever. he pretty much single handedly started the celtics dynasty. Whenever he blocked a shot, he blocked to either his teammates or himself, never out of bounds.
