group, and some that are not as wealthy prefer to draw names for a gift exchange. How can we work this out so some can draw names and some can just buy presents. I am new to celebrating christmas, so give me your tips!

It sounds like you have already solved your own problem! Put all those who wish to do a gift exchange into a hat and pull out names. Every one who can/wants to buy for each person will do so on their own.

A way to involve everyone together is a game where each person brings a gift of a certain $ amount ($20 is a good limit) and you number each gift when people come in. Then when it's time to open gifts, you each draw a number and open that gift. It makes it a bit random and that way no one will have to feel left out or like they don't have enough for everyone. Then, those who want to buy individual gifts still can if they choose, and they are included in the festivities.

Another game is to do a 'secret Santa' exchange. In this game everyone picks someone else's name out of a hat and keeps it a secret. You can decide if they will give one gift or many small gifts during the season, maybe put a $ amount limit on the whole exchange. The gift receiver tries to guess from the gifts they receive who their 'secret Santa' is. At the end, you all get together and reveal who you thought was your 'secret Santa' and they tell if you were right.

Good luck!

I would think that the wealthier kids would be understanding enough that if you explain you can't afford to buy gifts for everyone and would prefer to draw names, they would understand. If not I might consider new friends, but that is easier said then done.

My son had wealthy friends and sometimes we did things like homemade cookies ( he new everyones's favorites) most of the rich kids never got to eat things that were homemade.
