not sure what you mean by revenge, but i think self-defense is ok,,,, so if they punched me, i would strike them back, hard enough so i would think they wouldnt be able to do it again,,,,,i would feel no obligation to keep my defense on the same level as their attack,,,,

The question that you need to answer first is what is "ok" (i think you mean right)? In my opinion it is not OK, not because it is wrong in any way. Self defence is an instinct. Revenge is not (at least it doesn't seem like to me). It is normal to protect oneself and there we aren't different from animals. But going back to hurt someone because they hurt you even when they have ceased the attack is a very human tendency and possibly the root cause of all the violence (physical, emotional, sexual) that we see around us. Think about it. What's the point? Are there other/better alternatives?

Getting revenge without provocation is not revenge, it's called starting a fight.

Personally I think if you've reached a point where violence is involved you've done something wrong. Defending yourself is ok. But if it turned into a fight, then I have no doubt blows were traded on both sides. So why bother with revenge.
It's over rated anyway.

depends on the type of revenge. a punch is a punch. in a lot of cases, a punch can lead to gunfire. just not worth it

no! call the police and let the authorities handle it. this will be your revenge when they go to jail or have to pay the price for hitting you.when you hit back then it could get ugly and you could get in big trouble. this person is not worth you losing your freedom over.let the proper people handle it and keep your hands clean .

There is no right or wrong here. The answer depends upon the result you wish to acheive. You you want to hurt them back? Do you want to complicate the situation? Do you want the confrontation to end ASAP?
