I don't talk down to people, but I do tailor my speech to match that of others...
If it's all like, ya know, then she goes, "Whatever..." I can do that, or if we must explore the ramifications of the current interaction, well, I can do that, too :-))

It's called condescending, dear. (LOL)
Not that I have to speak down to them so much. I think it's more like come down a level. I don't want to sound like a textbook, but at the same time, I want my point to be understood. You have to find that middle ground. On this site, that is not easy. People from all walks of life are on here. People from all levels of intelligence. Sometimes I just look at the way the question is worded and go from there. Sometimes all they want is a simple answer.

Sometimes...depends on where they're from or their education level. For example, my Grandmother never made it past I believe the 8th grade so even as an adult she was a little simple-minded. As I grew older but exceeded her in education it became a little harder to talk to her about certain things and her grasp the meaning of it.

Sometimes its frustrating when people don't understand some of the words I use in my everyday speech. So around certain people I tone it down a bit.

You are most welcome and sometimes that happens true...and even with members of my family. For the most part I do not mind it because I have had access to an education whereas they may not have but at the same time I do not feel that you should have to "dummy" yourself down for anyone!

Now you know why i only answer questions from a few select people. I know they have brains, so i don't have to dumb anything down for them. Most users here do not meet that criterion. So i ignore them.

Actually I do. I have to do that with my husband from time to time. He just doesn't get what I am saying. But hey, it happens to everyone at one point in time. I love my husband regardless.
