I actually don't believe that we are born with a predetermined sexual orientation. There are too many people who find their sexual preferences changing over time for this to be true, in my opinion.
I do believe, however, that you don't per se CHOOSE/LEARN to be a pedophile. You don't wake up one day and say "Geez, I think I'll eschew adults and go for children instead." But just because you didn't choose it doesn't mean it's biologically a part of you, you know? It's not something you can change, I feel. Take this example, for instance- you are a cat lover. You just love your pet kitties. Never been a dog person, thanks. You just know for sure that you wouldn't ever want to own a dog. So, someone says- you choose to love cats. Well, no, you reply, not really. I mean, I just like cats. I've always been that way. Does that mean, then, that there is a cat-loving gene in your body? Of course not. It means that this is a preference in your mind, one that you cannot consciously change, but is not innate, either.
I think that human sexuality is immensely more complex than the labels we have today like gay and straight. Our sexual desires come from our personalities, our past experiences, our childhoods, socialization, and more. It's a heady, messy mix of everything, and it gives us so much sexual diversity- sometimes in a good way, and sometimes in a bad way, like with pedophilia.
But all in all, I don't think people are born as pedophiles, but neither do I believe it's something they can change, although they can certainly control it and choose not to act on it.

Pedophilia is a sexual pathology, not a form of sexuality, so pedophiles are not born. The potential to be pedophiles lies dormant in all humans, as tasteless as it is to accept. But most of us are not pedophiles because we have moral codes, biolological defense systems and are psychologically balanced.....
Brain chemistry, environment, experience and psychological triggers all play a part.
Clinical depression, post-partum depression are illnesses caused by circumstance and the lack of insight to deal with coping. Chemistry plays a part - not in the formation of pedophilia but how it manifests. Get it???

Maybe, but this is like comparing apples and oranges. Pedophiles have a sexual attraction and usually nothing more. Homosexuals connect on more levels than that. Sex, Love, Emotions.

no.
homosexuality is natural, and is based on hormones (proven by scientists). It is also seen in other mammals, so it's not solely a human thing.
pedophilia has nothing to do with hormones, because sex hormones are ONLY male-female things. pedophilia is a sexual desire with no hormonal influence, and is not seen in animals, which means it's unnatural. It is a fetish, not a natural sexual interest.
someone said "yes, it all happens in the brain. If you look at the brain of a pedophile or murder it reacts differently to a 'normal' person's brain. With Homosexuals, parts of their brains react when they see the same sex, the same way a heterosexual sees a member of the opposite sex"
that's different - pedophiliac's brains react differently, but sexual reactions are, again, controlled by hormones. pedophiliacs brains react differently because they usually were deprived of social interaction or something else necessary to personal development while growing up. it's like saying people are born murderers just because they react differently - pedophilia is caused by the environment, because there is no PHYSIOLOGICAL difference between them and normal sexually active people. (gay people have a different physical thing going on in the brain - gay mens cells have been proven to be clustered in ways more similar to womens than straight men)

People aren't born homosexual or pedophiles. It is a choice you make.

No. Homosexuality is a sexual orientation, whereas pedophilia is a sexual dysfunction resulting from psychological factors outside of genetics. There is no connection between the two.

I guess it's possible but there's no way to ever know until the person gets older. If an 8 year old is attracted to another 8 year old, you couldn't call that kid a pedophile yet.

No. A person's orientation is not comparable to a sexual fixation on a specific age group(children).
