Honestly its all on you and if your going to let the word have the power to hurt you or not. I honestley feel the word shouldn't be used by anyone. It would be like calling a jew a kike. Both are highly derogatory terms. But if you find it ok for one group of people to use the term (aka rappers and yes I know they change the spelling but it's the same word) then everyone should be able to use it. I feel Michael Richards went a little off the deepend for a few minutes where Andy Dick I feel did it to get more attention drawn to himself. Where I can forgive Michael Richards for going off the deep end but not Andy Dick for drawing attention. And notice I didn't forgive either one for use of the word.

What Michael Richards did was disgusting and uncalled for. He may say he was only trying to defuse the situation or that he didn't mean it, but the damage has already been done. I'm sorry your feelings are hurt. Whoever says that words can't hurt you obviously has never dealt with racism. The sad truth is that we can never hope to truly eradicate bigotry, but we can at least stop as much of it as possible.
P.S. - Despite what Michael Richards said, don't any of you say "Kramer is a racist". The Seinfeld character Cosmo Kramer was based off an actual person named Kenny Kramer and he is deeply disturbed that people associate him with Richards.

The problem with Michael Richards was the way he used it. It was completely wrong and out of line. He could have joked around with the people not listening to him, there are no excuses for going on a racist rage fest like he did. Don't know much about Andy Dick.

Really, why bring this **** back up? As a black chick, why would you want it to be hounding you? Michael Richards was an ***, but so was the black dude who called him a cracker. BOTH idiots. Nuff Said. I think Andy Dick said it to copy Richards, so he can get publicity.. what show has that loser done lately. I'm of Filipino and Latin descent, and blacks called me a chink when I was little. So what, I don't hate blacks. I am an adult, now. It's just THOSE blacks are *******. Not the whole black race.

Just some 2nd rated comedians trying to get back into the public's view by saying something controversial.
If you pay attention to it, then you're doing exactly what they want you to do. If you don't pay attention to them, maybe they'll just go away.
Think how much their search have gone up since they did what they did. Does anyone even remember Richards besides his role on Seinfeld, and that series ended a long time ago. As for Dick, he's always been a 2nd rated comedian. I never found him funny or why he's even considered a comedian.

To be honest, I really could not care less at this point about who uses the word "*** ger" in any context. I shall use it here to show to the world that it is just a word, and when used in no context at all, has no derogatory meaning towards any race, creed, color, or person. In fact, the exact meaning of the word is thus: a person who is economically, politically, or socially disenfranchised. Previously it was a slang term for ignorant.
The word in and of itself holds only a harsh meaning if it is accepted as such.
What I find most concerning about it is this: If I, as a white male, say the word "*** ger" amongst black people that I know, I am immediately called upon for using "an insulting epithet"; whereas, these same black people are constantly calling each other "*** ger" and listening to music which is performed by a black performer and littered with the same, and worse, word.
Until such time as the double standard is taken away, I feel that the use of this, or any word, should not be seen as offensive in any way. In fact, if one has to stoop to a level so low as to use something like this to insult someone, then should it really matter what they think anyway? Really, if one cannot accept people for who they are, then are they worth the time we have taken to talk about, reflect upon, or even consider them?
I have returned and edited my statement as yahoo has deemed it incorrect for me to use the word "*** ger" in an explanation. This just shows my point. It's a word which contains only meaning when used in an inflammatory way, not in conversation or explanation such as this.

personally, I think we need to use it more and more in order to eliminate it's impact. that way a six year old won't go home crying because some chuckle head on the playground called him by that word. It is, after all just a word, and only our emotions give it any power at all.
Racism is an ideal, not a word. The only true solution is to educate our children. Sadly, I think that it will never completely go away, especially when there are narrow minded, dogmatic, lock steppers who can't formulate their own opinions, which the world is full of.

The N word has no place in the human vocabulary. The N word is that gunk that comes out of your nose, it is not a person. I have no place for anyone who continues to use it after I tell them my feelings about it.
