I've always loathed the idea of ever getting drunk, and find it foolish to define as one of the aspects of reaching adulthood having had one's first alcoholic drink.

Unless the supposed health benefits of some drinks, such as red wine, cannot be found elsewhere, why the desire to ever drink these beverages?

Is man so in need of escape and pleasure that he cannot be dissuaded by the dangers his pursuit entails?

I'm not for banning it, I just don't understand why people canno rationalize away from it, given the ample evidence of how destructive it is.

How many of us can maintain moderate consumption, and is it smart to try?

Franly, I think I should have the right to beat you into a bloody mess if you get drunk and cause harm to me or someone I care about.

I know many of you will be offended by this, and that's your right.

I just don't understand the idolization.

It's socially acceptable, an escape, and you have every right to defend yourself. It's as old as history. Why do folks undertake any destructive behavior? No offense taken.

I used to be an alcoholic.

It was an escape for me from a reality which at the time was just ****.

There are so many people doing this because take a look at hollywood, what is it telling us?

When i was an alco i used to beat people and often wake up numerous places i did not want to be. I also did stupid things like drink drive, and other just stupid stuff i really regret.

However it was really easy for me to get off of it, the body can adapt to constant consumption of alcohol, it gets to a point where you just don't feel the effect anymore.

i agree with the above, it it idolized in the media, just like smoking was before. it is because it is the "bad ***" thing to do. and yes man is so in need of escape and pleasure that he cannot be dissuaded by the dangers of his pursuit entails. it is human nature to satisfy a desire, however one must have self control. often times as humans we fail at that. as humans we don't know our limits. as we age we learn more about ourselves which is why the drinking age limit is 21.

Alcohol is a blessing and also a curse depending on yourself.
Not every people can drink responsibly. That could cause of misfortune, like accident and etc.
But alcohol is a must in celebration,to most people.Alcohol is not a bad thing at all, just that some people make it look bad.

"Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."
-Ben Franklin

Alcohol is not inherently a "bad" thing. Unfortunately there are many weak minded people who can't handle it. However this is true with many other things like eating, sex, or even driving a car...
