I am sure they knew it was cold and by the way, they did not invent fire. I am sure they discovered it's one day after a lighning storm. They had to figure out a way to keep it going or restart it, but they did not invent it.

He definetely new summer vacation from freeze...Then he look for solution to improve his existence ...not fire was invented , rather meaning of luxery ... before he was't care whether cold or warm outside of his body.. it was ok.

DUH...that's why they wore animal skins and furs, and slept under fur blankets.
