Everyone is right about pressing the play button to shut it off. They just forgot to tell you that you have to hold it down for a couple of seconds. So press and hold till it shuts off, also make sure you don't have the hold button on.

Hold down the Pause button, and if you ever run into any problems, like if it freezes, you hold in the Menu button and the button in the middle at the same time and it will restart itself, have fun becxause Ipods are the Best!

Hold down the play/pause button until it turns off (it should be the same button...it is on mine).

hold down the play/pause button and then to keep it off so that it won't turn on push over the hold button....

i know, i don't know how to turn if off either. i just press and hold the pause button, then put it on hold. but i think it still uses battery power. i couldn't find anything in the manual either. dork that i am i actually looked.
