He was prescribed Welbutrin so that it would helphim stop smoking...the doctor is trying different medications to help with the pain.

I have often heard of it prescribed for quitting smoking. As far as his chronic pain, if he has been struggling with it for a long time, that in itself can be very depressing, so the anti-depressing factors of the med should help too. I know a couple people on it...half were fine on it, and the other half felt too anxious on it. It had some weight loss benefits for most of the people, as well as an increase in energy.

It depends on the person. It's usually used as an anti-depressant and it's cherished because it has few sexual side-effects, except that it might actually make him hornier.

It's not a pain pill per se. If you have questions about it in relation to his pain, you should ask the prescribing doc.

If he suffers from anxiety it may not help, might make it a little worse, but if that's not an issue, some people swear by it.

Those kinds of meds vary from person to person. You will need a few weeks on it to see an effect, and you may need to up the dose as docs typically like to start with the lowest dose that might actually do something.

If it works for him, great. Otherwise you may need to move to another class of anti-deps.

On edit: Pain treatment is an off-label (meaning "unofficial") use for it, though more for chronic fatigue and arthritis than chronic pain. It is often used to help stop smoking (as Zyban).

I take it for depression. I'd recommend getting a pill who's main intent is that of dealing with chronic pain, and not one that is also meant to do other things. And, of course, it depends on the person.

I know someone who took it and broke out in a painful rash. It took like three days for it to go away. As with any medication I guess that their are side effects.
