Deja Vu is French for "Again seen" or "seen again." It is the expereince you have when something is happening for the first time to you, say, a conversation, a trip somewhere, a party, whatever, and all of a sudden you are overcome with this strange but intense feeling that you have been here before; or had this same person say this same thing before, even though you know they haven't. Now, for explanations: The people who believe in reincarnation say this is a stray memory from a past life coming to the surface. But alot of psychologists and scientists who don't believe in reincarnation, say that Deja Vu is merely a "glich" in the brain's synapses. A synapse is a sort of "firing" of chemicals between brain cells--like a sprk plug in your car. This is how our brain works and communicates: by chemicals (neuro-transmitters) firing back and forth. Well, they say Deja Vu is merely when one synapse fires twice, real quick, but the second firing hits the memory bank before the first. It's bascially like your computer screen blinking!
I over-simplified this process alot: but that is the basic idea.

Usually translated 'already seen' or 'already lived through,' déjà vécu is described in a quotation from Dickens:
"We have all some experience of a feeling, that comes over us occasionally, of what we are saying and doing having been said and done before, in a remote time - of our having been surrounded, dim ages ago, by the same faces, objects, and circumstances - of our knowing perfectly what will be said next, as if we suddenly remember it!"[3]
déjà vécu
When most people speak of déjà vu, they are actually experiencing déjà vécu. Surveys have revealed that as much as 70% of the population have had these experiences, usually between ages 15 to 25, when the mind is still subjectable to noticing the change in environment[4]. The experience is usually related to a very banal event, but is so striking that it is remembered for years afterwards.
Déjà vécu refers to an experience involving more than just sight, which is why labeling such "déjà vu" is usually inaccurate. The sense involves a great amount of detail, sensing that everything is just as it was before.

The illusion of remembering scenes and events when experienced for the first time; a feeling that one has seen or heard something before.
Something like, when you walk in to a place, and you know you've never been there before, and yet when you walk in, you know you had been there before... It really feels and looks like it. You know where everything was, what was happening, etc.
Or if you get introduced to someone, you know you met them before, you even knew their names, and yet you two have never met before (in this lifetime).
An incident happened, you know you experienced it before, and yet it's never happened before, and yet you swear it had happened to you before.
Kinda weird really! In the past, "some" doctors thought it might be a very mild seizures. Apparently, when one has seizures, when they wake up, the last thing they remember was when they collapsed. Upon waking, they see the place where they were before the seizure, and it resembles a "deja vu".
However, today, some spiritualists believe it's because before we were born, our spirits chose our families, knowing exactly the kind of families we were going to be born in. Supposedly we had a flash of what we were going to experience. Our closest friends are nearby us at all times (in the spiritworld [3rd dimension])
If we experience a de ja vu (according to that belief), it's because we're still in touch with our spiritworld. ;)
Who knows the real cause. I'd sure like to know.

There are many theories on Deja Vu.
I tend to believe a Neural theories where the neurons misfire where one eye sees something a split second later than the other. That delay causes you to think that you've seen this before (which is true) in a past event.
I've noticed when I experience Deja Vu... I sort of get double vision for a second.
Just a thought. :-)

experiencing a situation or moment you swear you have done or been through before. Its a mental feeling of knowing the outcome before it appears.
