Prometheus was the son of Iapetus who was one of the Titans. He tricked the gods into eating bare bones instead of good meat. He stole the sacred fire from Zeus and the gods. Prometheus did not tell Zeus the prophecy that one of Zeus's sons will overthrow him. In punishment, Zeus commanded that Prometheus be chained for eternity in the Caucasus. There, an eagle (or, according to other sources, a vulture) would eat his liver, and each day the liver would be renewed. So the punishment was endless, until Heracles finally killed the bird. Prometheus is known to be one of the most interesting characters in Greek Mythology.

I think it depends on the circumstances surrounding the point where someone calls you that, cuz it really could be taken either way. Not knowing that, my guess is that it would be a compliment.

Prometheus was a champion of humanity. He introduced fire to the people, invented and created. But no other god surpassed him in cunning and deceit. His brother was Atlas. He held no awe for the other gods, and he ridiculed Zeus, though he fought alongside the gods against the other Titans. He seemed very fond of giving Zeus a bad time, in particular. The time he gave fire to the people really pissed Zeus off in fact, because Prometheus did that on purpose to give people warmth, directly in opposition against Zeus, who had withheld warmth from the people. Zeus was so enraged because the giving of fire began an era of enlightenment for Man. Prometheus was punished many times by Zeus, but that didn't stop him. lol When he was chained to a heavy stone as a punishment, he just dragged it along everywhere with him. He is seen as a hero by people and highly honored as their 'patron'.

Mythologically, Prometheus brought fire and then enlightenment to mankind (which pissed off Zeus... who punished him by having an eagle eat his liver over and over). Calling someone Prometheus is like saying... you're a good person because you're trying to bring good things, but beware because someone with power might get pissed off. That's always been my take.

I agree with the person who mentioned that context would play a role in determining whether its a compliment or not. I see it more as a warning in general.

What Does Prometheus Mean

I think it's an insult, sorry...i just did something on Prometheus in my German class of all classes...lol.

Prometheus was a son of Iapetus by Clymene (one of the Oceanids). He was a brother of Atlas, Menoetius, and Epimetheus, but he surpassed all in cunning and deceit. He held no awe for the gods, and he ridiculed Zeus, though he fought alongside the gods against the other Titans. Prometheus, in Ovid's Metamorphoses, is credited with the creation of man "in godlike image" from clay; in others, this role is assigned to Zeus.[2] When he and his brother Epimetheus set out to make creatures to populate the earth under the orders of Cronos, Prometheus carefully crafted a creature after the shape of the gods: a man. According to the myths, a horrendous headache overcame Zeus and no healer of the realm was able to help the Lord of the Gods. Prometheus came to him and declared that he knew how to heal Zeus, taking a rock from the ground Prometheus proceeded to hit Zeus in the head with it. From out of Zeus' head popped the Goddess Athena, with her emergence Zeus' headache disappeared. Some myths attribute Hephestus to the splitting of the head rather than Prometheus.

In Greek mythology he stole fire from the Gods and gave it to humans. The Gods punished him for that by condemning him to be bound to a rock for eternity where a bird pecks out his liver. As soon as the liver grows back, the bird comes and pecks it out again.

Oops, forgot to mention in an earlier episode Prometheus actually created humans out of clay. Athena breathed life into them and they came alive.

It means someone who came up with some helpful or useful innovation who is nevertheless punished for it.

i'm with you in thinking this is extra of an insult, even though if that may not the way it replaced into meant. women persons are impossibly gentle approximately weight, so we are susceptible to evaluate something different than the be conscious "skinny" an insult. Even a guy who appreciates curves is accustomed to he can offend any woman via his decision of words. As loopy as this sounds, maximum white adult adult males i know evaluate "thick" a detrimental factor (or they say they do, even though in the event that they're needless to say interested in females people who do not resemble stick figures), yet maximum black adult adult males i know evaluate it a severe compliment. yet even though if a black guy tells me i'm "thick" with an appreciative smile on his face, i will't help yet balk in horror because of the fact I hear the be conscious "fat" quite of "thick." I wish i might desire to experience flattered, yet I fairly do not. via how, once you're 5'9" and a hundred sixty five kilos, you certainly do not meet the factors required to be seen fat! You sound such as you're proportioned the way a woman could be -- finished with breasts and hips. To hell with each and all of the genetic freaks passing themselves off as supermodels! 2 days without food and that they are lifeless of starvation! And who might have the final snigger then? the real women people will!

Depends on context.

If you've just brought a candle into a dark room, it's a compliment.

If he's just chained you to a rock and brought in a vulture, you're in a HEAP of trouble.
