Can you get a virus connecting to a neighbor's router? He has no passwordd so I can connect to it freely. Is it okay to continue to do this? I have my own dsl line but i only connect my other laptop to the neighbor's router via wireless. Can it get a virus?

Using any public connection is not completely secure unless you sessions are encrypted.
You are sharing internet connections with your neighbor, so, if he wanted to, he could hack into your computer via its IP address and run back door scripts etc on it which could be damaging to your computer unless you have a very powerful software based firewall application installed.

u only get a virus when u transer a file to/from your computer or you "share" any resource on your HD and someone transfer you an infected file to your PC. Otherwise, it's just a method to connect to the Internet.

NOT ONLY THAT, he might have this on purpose, you connect to his router and he can get your passwords, personal info, and also get infected files into your system like keyloggers, worms etc.

Well, you getting online so the risk is the same...
If you share you hard drive and join their workgroup, this is more dangerous...

risky.....becouse u must as the same workgroup/network, but don't share your hard drive.
