As of now their opening day rotation is Wang, Mussina, Johnson, Pavano, and Igawa. Johnson may not be ready at the opening and who knows about Pavano, they may not even sign Igawa but most likely will. If i were them i would sign a proven veteran lefty and who better then Andy Pettitte. Zito is younger but Pettitte has been the missing link to the Yankees the passed three years. He's played in New York and on the biggest stage and has succeeded. Saying that i think they should find a way to get rid of Pavano which isnt likely to happen but hopefully he's hurt all year lol, i don't want to sound mean but even when he was healthy he was getting blown all the way around the park. My hopes is that the Yankees staff will look like these 2 possibilities.
Wang, Mussina, Pettitte, Johnson, and Igawa or,
Wang, Mussina, Pettitte, (Karstens, Hughes, Sanchez, Rasner, or any of their young arms), and Igawa.

I kind of agree with Nacnud. They should do well with what they have and the addition of Igawa will only better the staff. They lost out to the Cubs for Lilly and he was the only one out there that I thought could help. I really hope they don't go after Zito. It's a lot of money to spend on a #2 or 3 starter. Pettitie might be a good option as long as they only sign him to a year. The youngsters in our minor system are studs. Wait until Philip Hughes hits the big top.

I know not too many fans agree with me but I think they win with what they got already.
Wang will be awesome
Mussina is always solid
Unit will still win 17 games
Pavano has to finally pitch a complete season
Many options for #5 Proctor, Hughes, Sanchez, Henn
oh yeah, I knew I was forgetting someone. Don't know much about him, but Igawa has to figure in.

Zito- big question mark
Lilly- between the Yanks and the Cubs
Pettitte - is going to pitch in '07- where? he's in no hurry to answer that question according to his agent
So.... right now, we can only watch and speculate

I think that Petitte is the right choice. He knows how to play in New York and no one wants to waste their career on the lowly Houston Astros. With his experience and his impressive numbers I think that he will be who the Yankees sign.

i will go for Pettite cuz he knows NY and the press and will not crack under pressure. He will get the run support that the Astros didnt give him or clemens.
