The main character is Huck. He is present in every second of the story. He tells it, it is HIS story, where Jim's part is more supporting in nature and his story comes secondary to the main theme of the tale, which is Huck's adventure toward his own freedom from his father and the widow.
Jim is a very important supporting character, but by far NOT the main.

Well I'm gonna have to say Huck. Best example, the book is named after him. Jim isn't exactly a sidekick, but he and Huck are basically on the same journey.
