the "Holy Grail." My question is --- Does the term The Fisher King have another earlier connection with the search for the grail? In other words, was the term connected with the grail long before the movie?

The Fisher King has a long connection with Arthur and the Grail knights. Probably best known through Mallory and the Great "Death of Arthur" novel... this figure was a lame king who had gained great wisdom through the pain of his wound. He was, in some Arthurian cycles, the father in law of Arthur... I would recommend looking through some Joseph Campbell materials, too, for some history on this mythic figure.

One member of the kingfisher family is the Halcyon. Halcyon days may be thought of as the end of the summer, with long days and short nights.

Yes, the Kingfisher and the Grail quest were linked before the movie.
