if the n is being multiplied by the 3, then you need to do this:
* (n*3) + 5 = -55
* 3n +5 = -55
* 3n = -60
* n= -20.
hope that helps!

Is that n times 3 or n to the 3rd power? Well anyway, I'll just assume n times 3 or nx3 or 3n:

n*3 = -55 - 5 "subtract both sides by 5"
n*3 = -60
n*3/3 = -60/3 "divide both sides by 3"
n = -20 "answer"

( n . 3 ) + 5 = - 55
( n . 3 ) = -55 - 5
( n . 3 ) = -60
n . 3 = -60
n = -60 / 3
n = -20

(n*3) + 5 = -55
nx3 = -55 - 5 subtract five from both sides
n x 3 = -60
n = -60/3 divide 3 from both sides
n = -20

(n*3)+5=-55
3n+5=-55 ~ you times the 3 by the n
-5=-5 ~ subtract 5 from both sides
3n=-60 ~ two negs added equals a neg
/3 /3 ~ divide 3 by both sides
n=-20 ~a pos divided by a neg equals a neg

You do
3n+5=-55
-5 -5
3n=-60
You Divide -60:3
Equals negative 20

move the 5 over n*3= -60

divide the 3 over n = -60/3

finish it off n = -20

OK - here goes...

(n x 3) +5 = -55

so then you minus 5 from both sides so you get:

n x 3 = -60

then you divide both sides by 3 so you get:

n = -20

I *think* that's right! It's been a while since I've done math...! Let me know if I'm right!!

n*3 is basically 3n (3 multiplied by n)
So the equation is
3n + 5 = -55
To solve the equation we need to get the n term on tis own to find out its value.
So the first step to doing this is to get rid of any unnecessary numbers on the n side.
In this case, it is 5.
As it is a + 5, the way to get rid of it is to -5.
So we -5 to BOTH sides which leaves us with the equation:
3n = -60

Now, to find n on tis own all we do is divide both sides by 3.
This gives us:
n = -20

So now we have solved it, we know that the value of n is -20.

(3n) + 5 = -55 (remove ( ) )
3n + 5 = -55 (subtract five from both sides)
3n = -60 (divide both sides by three)
n = -20
