What is common sense?

That which is self evidently reasonable. Such as if you want to live its common sense not to cross the street in front of a Semi. Why? Because its reasonable to believe that if you cross in front of a Semi you would die, and you don't want to die. That is common sense

I believe that it is rational thought, and is the essence of intelligence. Common sense is what keeps you alive and well. Those who have it are intelligent, and those who lack it are fools. Common sense is far more important than worldly knowledge: for what will it avail you to know every subject under the sun if you cannot survive long enough to share your knowledge?

Common sense is acting in your best interests. One who looks after himself first can be said to have common sense (for how can you look after others if you cannot take care of yourself?), and thus common sense is selfishness. Selflessness, the act of neglecting one's self and one's principles, is folly.
