I took a stool softener ever day right along with my prenatal vitamins. I have heard that the vitamins play a big part in the constipation to begin with. Constipation can lead to hemorrhoids so stay vigilant.

I had it so abd with my 1st pregnancy.I was told by my OB to drink 10-8 oz glasses of water a day.Drink prune juice-I know it sounds gross but it really does work! Also if those 2 things to not work you can use Metamucil or Milk of Magnesia-I ahd to use both of those and I was fine after that. All of the things I listed are safe.

I drank 2x the amount of water I normally did, then took Milk of Magnesia. Worked like a charm. I was amazed the baby stayed in there. I was miserable too, it had been AT LEAST a week and was making my tummy hurt. Anyway, that is what the doc told me to do. Good luck!

Just a few more suggestions... I've found dried fruit (apricots, prunes, etc.) work. I was watching a movie one night and before I knew it, I had eaten 1/4 of a bag of dried apricots - needless to say, I was up half the night. Eating a few a day should help keep you regular. Also, although it's gross, castor oil works. I'd go with the fruit. :)

Two things worked for me, one was drinking WARM apple juice. The second thing was what the doctor told me to get and that is a stool softner. She told me to get the generic walmart brand. it worked and I had a healthy baby boy. I am pregnant again and going through the same thing. Good luck!

You have some pretty good answers already. You can minimize this problem by maintaining a high fiber diet and avoiding cheese.

It might sound nasty but it's the easiest and safest. Put baby oil or vasaline on your longest finger and stick it as far as you can, it will work. Plus drink prune juice.

Grapes - they tend to get things moving. Avoid bananas for awhile, too.
