If you want to capture the whole screen, press CTRL + PrtScreen. If you want just the selected window, press ALT+PrtScrn. You can then paste the result into Paint & save as a JPG or whatever format you prefer. Good luck.

Just press Printscreen on your keyboard when you think that you want to capture the screen and make a snapshot.

Got Run Type mspaint and press enter
Or
Start MS Paint or anyother painting program
Create a new document by File new
Paste the contents of clipboard by Ctrl+V or paste command in edit window
Save the file or edit it if you want to.

There are many screen capture programs with 100 of effecient functions just search for screen capture free software and you will get some good ones from yahoo or google.

just press the "PrtScn" (print screen) button on your keyboard, then paste it into any image editor. (even ms paint if that's all you have)

OR you can use a commercial program like SnagIt. It has options for just grabbing a window, or selected area of screen. Nothing you can't do just by croping the image though...
