I see ladies wear garter belts with lingerie, but I don't see what's the purpose of it. Anyone know?

They are used to hold thigh high stockings up! The type of stockings that don't have an elastic band too hold them up. Also they are used to give us guys a thrill if we catch a glimpse of the top of a woman's stockings and the garter belt.

It's a holdover from old-style stockings, which didn't have elastic to hold them up (because elastic hadn't been invented/discovered yet). In fact, in the middle ages, men's hose was held up much the same way: strings called "points" were tied to the top of the hose and to the man's underpants, called "braies".
Garter belts don't serve any *practical* purpose these days, but that doesn't mean they're completely useless. :)

some ladies use it to hold up their thigh high hose, others use it cause they think it is sexy, i guess it just depends on ur style
