During physical changes, the state, particle size or physical configuration or a mixture is modified but the chemical composition remains relatively unchanged.

Polishing rocks in a tumbler, chopping food in a blender, sanding a piece of wood, boiling water, "melting" dry ice are examples of physical changes.

During chemical changes, the chemical composition of the mixture is modified. The physical properties are usually changed as a consequence of this.

Smelting iron ore to iron, cooking an egg, burning a piece of wood, reacting plaster of Paris with water, releasing carbon dioxide from a bottle of soda are examples of chemical changes.
