They could check her ISP's logs and find out who had that IP address at the time, so she can still be traced.

But this story doesn't make sense as stated. Why would creating a MySpace page about your school be grounds for a subpoena? There's something else going on here...

Tell her the only solution to this problem is her 20th birthday...

It's impossible to say how long it will take to get a subpoena, but once the school has one I can't imagine it would take very long to get myspace to access their logs and find out what IP logged onto what site at what time.

The final step would be to contact the ISP that sublet said IP address to what customer.

Accessing the information really shouldn't take long at all. Once the school has the subpoena in hand, myspace and the ISP in question should comply quickly. I'd guess a couple of days at most.

If the school really goes the distance there is no way to hide from or avoid the inevitable. All the information is on file, it's just a matter of running a query with the information provided by the school.

If the school is serious tell her to get a lawyer, it would make no difference if she reset her ip address, her Internet service provider keeps records of who had what ip address at what time and usually keeps this information for at least six months to a year if not longer, I don't think that the school would be successful in obtaining a subpoena unless she made made threats against the school, or has talked about illegal things that she has done on school property on her myspace account, but I would still at least talk to an attorney if I were her.

Good luck with that. they will still find out. Tell her you love her as a friend and you respect her as a person but she has to suffer the consequences..
