They already have this test in California. It started with the graduating class of 2005. The test is ridiculously easy(you take the test as a sophomore and most pass. If you don't, you still have two more tries and I think they put you in a special class just to study to pass the test.) Is only really aimed at the worst students so it really shouldn't be a problem for most people.
It sort of makes sense to have it around so a high school diploma still means at least something.
At least in California speaking Spanish will get you farther then a high school diploma anyways.

There should be some form of test so that employers or Universities/Colleges can get an indication how bright you are. Home Assignments sometimes do not show this because of the ability to cheat, so exams are the only alternative (that we have in Australia anyway). The exams could be held within the University that you are applying for but then this dosn't help people who are just looking to just enter straight into a full time job and who needs exam marks as an indication of their performance.

Do you believe that an employer or a college should accept some one who can not read or write.
We pay many 1000s of dollars for our school system. The Objective, the last time I heard was to graduate a student with basic level skills.
One day, you will be competing with a Chinese or Japanese student for a Job.
Enough said.

You involuntarily spend four years in high school without pay and they expect you to not only take, but to pass an exam to graduate? What a bunch of fascist, bureaucratic bs.
Bill them for your hours of time spend off the job when you could otherwise have spent 8 hours a day at McDonalds learning to sling cow meat rather than the names of dead presidents.
Sounds like a million dollar lawsuit.
p.s. You cannot vote, you are a taxpayer with every purchase you make (sales tax), and you have to report for selective service at 18, and they dont let you drive or drink or smoke, what kind of racket is that? Taxation without representation, your a virtual prisoner in your own town, and you have no say in any of it. Sucks to have only one outlet for complaint: Yahoo! Answers, huh?

Yes. This test is basically the culmination of all the knowledge acquired and retained that would make a high school student eligible to either go on to college or enter the workforce with some ability to reason.

I totally think so-alot of kids barely get by on graduating. They need to have an exit exam to make sure the kids are capable of graduating.
