It's really funny. When a Brazilian novelist wants to make a novel about other country he travels to the other country, research about the country, etc, you don't even care.

In the 80's there was a Hollywood movie in Uruguay. In that movie the population of Uruguay was 90% indigenous. Very interesting to a country where 90% of the population is white

The problem, my friends, is not that the movie is a horror film in Brazil. The Brazil is that the country in the movie has nothing to do with brazil!!!!

If they make a movie about the slums, good, because it is the reality. There is no problem about showing the truth. But only the TRUTH

That movie has floundered at the box office and was universally scorned by the critics. It's just a bad movie - and, as the previous reply pointed out, a rip-off of another bad movie.

America is a very diverse nation; just because some dim wit makes a film please don't assume that view reflects the opinion of the rest of us.

My advice is just to ignore it. That is the worst thing you can do to a film and its maker. Don't give him free publicity by making it controversial.

Does the Texas Chainsaw Massacre make America look bad?

If so, then we have 300 million people to get angry. Brazil will just have to wait.

It is simply entertainment. Now, I haven't seen the movie, so I can't say if it's *good* entertainment, but it is simply entertainment. And horror entertainment usually preys on people's fears and insecurities.

What is one such fear? Traveling to a strange place. So, a trip to Brazil (could have been Honduras, South Africa, or Belgium) becomes a surreal, frightening experience. Big deal. I'm sure that the travel anxieties helped fuel the movie.

Same thing with fears of spiders, heights, and the dark. Yet, are Arachnophobia, Vertigo, and the Cave slapping the faces of those elements?

Hey, be grateful the movie didn't show, or mention the death squads, the slums that are right next to some of the fancy hotels.

I still love going to Brazil.

Peace.
