I love this question. I have never thought of it before. I have been viewing Yahoo Answers as just one brilliant way to while away my free time. Yes, you are right.

Unintentionally, the sociology part of Yahoo Answers has become a sociological experiment, even if in an unpolished form.

Social science students may also get from here some nice ideas on potential research topics.

Did you see the movie The Trueman Show with Jim Carey- a man takes a baby and creates a false world for him everyone in the false world is an actor but him. He is being filmed 24 hours a day and on live TV. He thinks it is real until someone tries to come into the false world and tell him it is not real (Guru) That is what this world is (Maya illusion) check it out on DVD. Read Bhagavad Gita As it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. You will see that this world is like that.

I was the other day......I was wondering why there were questions that weren't questions, they were just saying to write what you were feeling, and the stuff like trivia questions. But then I tried to figure out how so many people putting their own questions out there fitted in, and I read some answers that were really stupid, and i just thought it would be too weird and not possible. Nobody would spend all that time thinking up answers to the questions just for an experiment. Wait a minute.........is this another question in the experiment???????????????????

Could be but then again is life itself just not one big sociological experiment? Maybe there are no real emotions but we are only led to believe that they exist. No past no present no future no love no hate no other emotion in the world at all we could just exist here. An experiment like that maybe?????? Then again maybe we only think we exist????

On Febuary 12, 2006- the day I signed up.

I have no qualms with that. When you go to the store, you are being watched for marketing research, ect. The INTERNET is all a bucnh of marketing research. What a way to sell your product- to know your buyers intimate thoughts.

May we take a brief moment to tighten the strings on eachothers backs, and oil the wheels we are so valiantly forced to run on for exercise....And experiment with the notion that no one stands over your shoulder and tells you what to ask...or answer? We may only learn from one another..and sociology is the art of doing so. What if? Are we all supposed to run and hide? You cut my string, I'll cut yours...But anyone tries to run off with my little water bottle with the ball bearing faucet and that tasty little multi colored granola bar I gnaw on daily..WE GOT PROBLEMS.

I think that is a very big possibility. And I am sure someone very soon will use it and publish their findings, write a book and make a great deal of money. Great thought. Have a great evening. God bless****

definite, i assumed approximately that, yet sociology is very a comedian tale to scientists, so, i've got faith that if that's one vast sociological test, that they are going to bungle this one too.
