a preposition tells of where something is in relationship to other things.
The word back as far as i can tell can be used as a noun (it hit his back) or an adjective (the back side of the barn is red).
Back can be used in a prepositional phrase (In back of the store) but just the word back alone i can't figure out how to use it in a proposition correctly. Behind would be a single prepositional word (I was behind the tall guy in the movie theater).
