I don't seem to be able to succeed in my life however hard I try, how can I be happy when so many things are wrong?

Seduce Leela with a holophoner. That can't fail.

Anyway if you mean real life instead of Futurama then I would recommend just doing more fun things. Go to the cinema more often, go bowling or play pool, dance more, listen to more great music, eat more tasty fruit and take more time to make sure you are eating things you really enjoy, just little things that make you a fraction happier will slowly make life seem better.
Also don't do things that don't make you happy. If you are not loving a TV show then turn it off and read a great book. If you don't like a sandwich throw it away and eat something else. If your shirt looks bad buy a new one. Pay attention to your mood and you will soon stop doing things you don't enjoy.
You can't really change the big things easily but you can make hundreds of little improvements to your life which will make you more positive and more able to adapt and cope and soon the big things won't seem so big ad then you can tackle them too.
Take care and remember - H A V E F U N !

Note: Sorry about the length.
To be positive and to be happy are actually two serperate things. Being positive about situations is a mind set, an attitude. An attitude is something that you have control over. Some people believe, "I am this way and that is the way it is." I believe that is incorrect. The mind is just like the computer you are using to read this. It has hardware like the brain, your senses, and your natural persections and instincts. The "keyboard" or "mouse" for the mind is your senses, especially your eyes and ears. The software and different programs of the mind are what you input into it through the people you associate with, the television or music you listen to, and the things you hear and "say to yourself."
Now if you constantly loaded viruses and malware onto your computer it wouldn't run as it should. The same is true with negative input from life. The more negative you directly or indirectly let in the more of a negative effect it has on you general thought process. The more positive you directly or indirectly input the more positive your general thought process. Make sense?
Now being positive is not thinking happy happy thoughts, it is having confidence that situations good and bad can be used for good. How can a bad situation be good? If a baby touches the hot stove and burns itself, that is a bad situation. If the baby realizes, "I made a mistake", and chooses not to do that again that is a bad situation turned good. You have to discipline the mind to think positive and reject negative thoughts. You have to build being positive just like you build your muscles. If you never walked, you leg muscles would atrophy.
Now being happy when so many things are wrong is similar but different. Most of the time if you are unhappy it is because you are dwelling on your problems and focusing on what is happening "right now". To overcome this you have to know where you are going. If you have bad situations in your life and have no hope for tomorrow all you have are the dissappointments of today. The best way to explain this is if you watch a live football game of your favorite team you experience the highs and lows throughout the game. Right? If you are watching a recording of the game and have already found out that your team has won, you are cool as a cucumber. If there is an interception or a turnover you don't care because you "know" before the end you score enough points to win. You have to decide what you want in life and know that you will get it.
Lastly, success is different things to different people. You have to decide what success is for you. Would you take a 2,000 mile trip without planning anything? Then why are you trying to live a 100 year life by the seat of your pants? Get a goal, find a vehicle that can accomplish it, and just go do it. And don't stop until you get it. Realize there is no reason you cannot have it and don't let the clock runout until you have scored enough points. Successful people realize and develop good habits that will get them where they want to go, and they become a slave to those habits.
Both successful and unsuccessful don't want to do the things to have success, it's just successful people do them anyway.
Hope this helps.

How can you be happy when so many things go wrong? Don't. You don't have to be happy, although society seems to think there is something wrong with you if you aren't bubbly and laughing. You need to stick it out. Grin and Bear it! Get through the hard times, then afterwards you can indeed be happy.

How come you don't seem to succeed in life however hard you try? 2 perspectives:

1. you are perfectionist. Life isn't perfect. Accept imperfection. Strive for excellence, but know you can't have it all and all perfect.
2. your efforts are not enough. Work harder, dear gal/lad. If you're talking about academics. Stay up later, get up earlier. Study like your life depends on it, but believe in yourself. If you're talking about getting a person to like you, well.. just be yourself. The heck with that person. Enjoy yourself and your interests.
Your problems are not specified. I can't imagine any further without making myself ridiculous.

Every one's questions seem to be dead on! the laws of attraction if you keep looking for the good you will see more of it!
case in point! i can't stand being tailgated and when i had an hour drive to and from work that's all i would notice! the drive was routine so i just notice people that where just to close to my car. the more i notice the more it happend now i have a bumber sticker on my car that says i break for tailgaters... Keep in mind my bumper is cracked and has been hit. thankfully it wasn't from a tailgater at that point of my life. I had nothing to look forward to. then with in a two year span of my life i seen the big photo...
Not everything comes with instent gradifacation When someone who thinks negitive dont get gradifacation then they don't see the point there for reflex as negitve! believing this gives you an excuse. a way out the shortcut .
My goodness this is hard to explain..
Any way
laws of attraction
time
practice
having PASSIONATE LIFE MOVING GOALS

i do know when you don't think you have your goals all set.. you need to see what YOU want not what you want people to think..<-- we all do it .. or have i should say

but what helps is to make list of all the good things! If i'm really out of control with my emotions i just start saying aloud what i'm good at. no matter how petty and different it may be!
Now I still go in and out but i'm female and they are more emotional then men...

anyway!
It's not as hard as you may want to make it out its just action practice and patience...
coping.org helped me start living my life for me instead of what other people think or what i wanted them to think.. or how they feel my goals don't hurt no one! and my BIG goals i don't tell anyone just because they may not be positive about it and it's my goal not theirs.
Mad luv
Good luck

Perhaps these lyric from ONE WEEK from BNL might shed some light onto it..

...
How can I help it if I think youre funny when you're mad
Trying hard not to smile, though I feel bad
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can't understand what I mean? You soon will
I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of losing my shirt

It's been one week since you looked at me
Dropped your arms to your sides and said I'm sorry
Five days since I laughed at you
And said you just did just what I thought you were gonna do
Three days since the living room
We realized were both to blame, but what could we do?
Yesterday you just smiled at me
Cause it'll still be two days 'till we say we're sorry

It is as easy to be positive, as it is for you to be negative.
It is as harder for me to be negative, than it is for you to be positive, because I want to be positive, and you want to be positive.

You can take control of your mind. If you tell your mind often enough to think positive it will become your minds habit.
I can't teach you the quickest method in an answer. Basically listen to your thoughts, look for a positive way of seeing the same situation, and every time you catch yourself thinking negatively, substitute it's opposed positive thought.

You can learn to appreciate things going wrong, because you can make wrong seem fortunate, or even great.

keeping positive is often a hard task when a person feels as if they are surrounded by so much negative. try to force yourself to view things in the 'well, it could be worse' way. just be grateful for what you have & no matter wahat keep on trying to make things better for yourself and the ones you love. you cant really succed much with a negative outlook.

KEEP TRYING. AS LONG AS YOU KEEP TRYING YOU STILL HAVE NOT FAILED. REMEMBER, PERSISTENCE ALWAYS PAY OFF. NO MATTER HOW WET A WOOD MAYBE, WHEN IT IS PLACED EVERYDAY NEAR A FIRE, EVENTUALLY IT WILL DRY UP AND BURN. THAT IS ALSO TRUE WITH POSITIVE THINKING. IT TAKES GARGANTUAN EFFORT TO SUSTAIN IT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE USED TO THINKING NEGATIVE. EVERYDAY BEFORE YOU START THE DAY, LOOK AT THE MIRROR AND TELL YOURSELF THAT YOU ARE LUCKY AND BLESSED, AND THAT YOU HAVE MANY THINGS TO BE THANKFUL FOR. COUNT YOUR FINGERS AND HANDS AND YOU WILL KNOW HOW LUCKY YOU ARE. HOW MANY ARE WITHOUT THEM? KEEP ON AND YOU WILL SUCCEED EVENTUALLY.

Positive and negative are perpetual things in that being positive will perpetuate more positive thoughts and as a result more positive results. The same goes for being negative.

A combination of genetics and experience (including how you were raised) are determinants in how positive/negative a person is.

what asphire said, i fell into the trap of thinking that one must be laughing and smily all the time and if you are not there is something seriously wrong and weird with you. Its just not the case, just be strong minded is the best advice I can give oh and relax as well. Shame I hadn't taken this advice.
