i need to solve the absolute value equation.

[k]-3=2k

i know one is -3=k, but what is the other??
thanks help is appreciated,!!

first move 3 to the other side
[k]=2k+3
next break it into two possible equations and solve for k
k=2k+3
-k=3
k=-3
or
-k=2k+3
-3k=3
k=-1

Just rewrite as two equations:
k - 3 = 2k (you solved this one already) and
-k - 3 = 2k

k-3=2k
-3=k <---answer 1
and the other one is
-k-3=2k
-3=3k
-1=k <---answer 2

all i know is that k=-3 is wrong
its probaly k=-1
[-1]-3=2(-1)
1-3=-2
-2=-2

I really don't think k = -3
