Actually, an embryo can implant outside of the uterus, resulting in an eptopic pregnancy. However, those pregancies cannot be carried to term -usually the fetus dies, but if it continues to grow it is life threatening to the mother.
In a normal pregnancy, the fetus develops in the uterus -usually on the upper posterior wall.
