This is a tough question to answer because I don't know you and your interests.

The southern east coast is a fun place. To raise a family, it might not be the best choice.

The West coast, Naples area is nice but the weather is too tropical.

The Tampa/ St Pete area is a nice place. Great beaches, house prices aren't sky high but the daily traffic is murder! (The Yankees have spring training there!)

My wife & I looked in the St. Augustine/Jacksonville area. Being from Long Island, I asked the agent, are there any Starbucks in the area? Oh about, twenty miles away is a dunkin donuts. Scratch this area off the list!

In three weeks we are going to meet with an agent on the east coast of Florida in the Melbourne area. The houses are within reason, the school system is new, its an up and coming area.

For work? There is the space center in the area, its filled with tech jobs. Plus Orlando is 45 minutes away, more jobs, more opportunity.

I'll tell you more after I'm back!

florida is very different wherever you go -- in general wages are low and benefits are low -- we are still the south and have one of the worst school systems and health care systems. i live in orlando currently and wouldn't recommend central florida to anyone. florida keeps coming up on "worst of" polls -- ft lauderdale is 2nd in housing market crashes -- miami isn't far behind. 4 cities were in the top 10 angriest places to live -- orlando is #1, st pete, jacksonville, and i forgot the 4th. Florida is growing in leaps and bounds -- but people are leaving now just as quickly. somewhere i saw the figure for arrival and departure from orlando being an average of about a year and 1/2. i hear stories all the time of corporations moving employees here and cutting their wages in 1/2 and the fools go through with it because they think it really is that much cheaper here just because we don't have state taxes. I am thinking Georgia is looking good lately.

I have lived in or been to all of the cities in Florida mentioned above. Definitely do not move to Jacksonville- lack of culture and smelly. Naples is nice only if you have loads of money. Miami is way too crowded- good for single folks, but not for a family. Pensacola is only nice if you want a small town deep-south mentality. Cape Coral too small.

Tampa/St. Pete is the way to go: Culture, beautiful beaches. Living in St. Pete and working in Tampa is nice if you don't mind a commute. Or live in Tampa and go to beaches in St. Pete. Better yet, get a job in St. Pete if you can. Then go to Tampa for occasional night life with your wife and for sporting events.

Would help to know what Kind of work you like to do or trained for...

Big Family and cost of living on top of a Good job...

Orlando is the easyest to find most any job.... and middle ground cost of living compaired to Miami and Tampa area's

Jacksonville area,,,, I recommend west side and south... But you need to know what job you want to look for... Cost of living just above Pensacola... with is lowest of the big Citys...

Tampa I don't recommend,,,,,
But real close is... Lake Land .... that would put you between Tampa and Orlando.... Great driving jobs all around there.... And plenty of trucking companys need warehouse, fork lift drivers and 18 wheeler drivers...

I agree with Heather on St Peter...if your home life needs a quiett town and you can travel to everywhere from there... But then comes into play What kind of work do you want to do, because Tallahassee is crowded vs affordable housing the suburb's like it seem OK...

Good Luck with the Move.....

My friend the best city to live in Florida is St. Pete. They have the best beaches there its a more low/key atmosphere- definately more of a flip flop mentality. Also it has a great downtown area with wonderful museums!!!!

If you want more city life, South Tampa is that spot too, its close to downtown and south tampa bars/restaurants and there are more things to do. Tampa/St. Pete is the best.

if you are a beach person: St Pete, if you are a city person: South Tampa!

According to the latest Yahoo polls, Jacksonville, FL is one of he top 5 most desireable cities to live in.

Good jobs
Low cost of living
Good weather
Great Shopping

Lately it has been one of the most popular cities in the country to move to. I just read that the other day.

Miami. You must try Wolfie Cohen's Rascal House restaurant in North Miami. It is just really diverse. Nothing boring in this town.
