Women who are sexual predators are documented as having severe psychological problems and/or mental illness, usually from systemic abuse themselves from very early ages.

However, it sounds like your friend willingly "dated" another willing woman, whether she was aware of her age of not, then got caught. That does make her a sexual "offender."

It's very unusual for women to be sex offenders, particularly with their own sex, but someone with a record of it usually does have severe mental problems relating to sex.

Unless your friend's PTSD resulted from sexual abuse years ago, however, it's not the typical mental illess that pushes women to become predator/offenders. An attorney could work wtih it, but perhaps not successfully. You said she'd already been convicted, tho, so it's hard to tell what your question is asking on her behalf????

Yes, someone with a mental illness can be a sex offender. In fact I think that by definition a sex offender IS mentally ill.

Now as to whether or not your friend took a plea she shouldn't have, that's open for debate. Taking the plea because she didn't want to lose her kids sounds like bad legal advice. Being a registered sex offender may place limits on the things she can do as her kids get older. She won't be coaching sports or leading brownie troops or a whole lotta other things.

The laws about this sort of thing are like Swiss cheese.
Apparently so is the mind of your friend.
If the state deems that she is mentally sound
enough to care for her kids and live out on her own,
All laws that apply to you and me apply to her.
There's no law that says if you use bad judgment,
You get off free. She has to be responsible for herself.
You can't blame the law.
She says she didn't do anything wrong...
The babysitter says she did....
Her bad judgment was in picking that type of person
to watch her kids in the first place.
You don't lose your kids just because you are accused.
There must have been a really good chance that she would be found guilty. Her lawyer must have thought it would be her best chance.
The law will always have to decide.

If she did something to the child it must be reported.Mental illness can contribute to the problem and she must get some help for it. Mental illness should not be used as an excuse for what happens. You were not clear as if she did something or if someone made something up. That can also happen. I know of someone whose child actually made a story up. She was lucky and the police did not find cause for arrest.

yes they can be sex offenders. I know a teenage mentally ill boy who is constantly harrassing girls in his class or whever he is. He usually does things like trying to look under their skirts or grab their bottoms when they pass by. I have seen his parents scold him and tell him it is wrong....but it's like it does'nt really sink in so he does it anyway.
