They would both hit the ground at the same time. They both are pulled down to the earth with the force of gravity and their acceleration in the down direction will be the same.

Yes. Assuming you shoot the bullet horizontally on flat terrain. The fired bullet has two forces working on it. The gas pressures from the burning gun powder (in the X direction) and gravity (in the Y direction) The speed of the bullet in the X direction has no affect on the acceleration due to gravity. The bullet you drop only has gravity working on it. Gravity is the only force working in the Y direction and the two fall at the same speed. Both bullets drop 16' in the first second. The one from the gun is just much farther away when it lands.

Depends on how the gun is aimed. If aimed exactly horizontal, the bullets would hit the ground at the same time (if the velocity is not too high). Aim the gun upward, and the fired bullet will take considerably longer to fall.

In a perfect experiment, disregarding friction, etc....
The bullets both fall at the same speed vertically, regardless of one of the bullets horizontal velocity.
They hit the ground at the same time.
(If the ground is level for miles around you, the gun is perfectly 90 degrees to the ground, and we consider only the perfect model of the situation and do the math.)

If you aim straight vertically the shot bullet would hit the ground first because it is propelled unlike like the dropped bullet that goes down on gravity

The one you drop. The force of the bullet being shot would make the bullet travel a farther distance before it looses force and falls to the ground.

depends which way you're shooting it.
if you shoot perfectly horizontal, and drop the bullet at the same time, they will hit at the same time, because the motion of the bullet horizontally is independent of that of gravity pulling it down.
(they will hit same time assuming they have the same mass).
Now if you shoot the gun upwards, the dropped bullet will land first,
or if you shoot the gun downwards, it should be pretty obvious.. ;)

The bullet that was shot out of the gun. Why? Acceleration from the gun powder reaction in the chamber forced the bullet to travel downward faster than if it had just fallen and succumbed to gravity.
(yeah, I thought that we were shooting downward)

Every one of you geniuses is wrong. The bullet fired horizontally will take longer to hit because of the curvature of the Earth's surface. It will have further to fall since the curve of the Earth is generally downward.
