Ok ... we probably need a little more information. Is this for an assignment? Or for a job application? Or for application to a college or university? The context makes a difference.
If you are applying for a job, think about your goal in terms of that job and what is possible within the parameters of that job. If you are hired what door does the job open for you in the near future and how can you grow professionally from the job? If you are just graduating from college, your goal might be "to be an elementary school classroom teacher", but if you are already working in the system, your goal might indicate aspiration to upward mobility. So think about the context, where you are now in terms of your career, and where you would like to be in about a year.

You were very vague on what your profession was. If your profession is a student, then your short term goals could be:
Pass a final exam
Graduate with a specific GPA or higher
Complete the college application process
Get accepted into college
Graduate college
If you are already in the workforce, short term goals could be:
Completing seminars, on the job training, or internships
Advancing to a specific position in the company
Gaining a management position

In any case, your short term professional goals are goals which you can reasonably achieve in a short time period, perhaps 6 months or a year. Short term goals might be:
Get my first job.

Take a seminar in sales techniques.
Make assistant manager in 6 months.
Increase my typing speed to 90 wpm.
These are goals which are certainly obtainable and will help you on your way to achieving your longer term, loftier goals.
