Does anyone know what artists and examples of art were ifluenced by the Americans back in 1955-70? Did Marvel comics have any influence on anyone? eg Andy Warhol, Richard Hamilton etc? I would be so grateful if anyone can help me out.

Do you mean English artists influenced by Americans? Like the Elvis `copiers`, Cliff Richard , Billy Fury etc? At a time (1950`s) when Teddy Boys, in dress and hairstyle copied the early Elvis and Marlon Brando images, girls wore hooped dresses and avidly absorbed all American influences, in film, music, clothing, chewing gum, and early burger bars. The period up to the Beatles was mostly American lead youth culture, this was largely `copycat` artistry, and a Britain that was recovering from the trauma of WW2, eagerly embraced the `modernism` of the American life style. Marvel comics were read by youngsters, difficult to see what influence comics had on British culture, certainly pop-art influenced 60`s fashion, which reflected the nutter Warhol`s output in his particular field of `art`.The English scene arrived in the 60`s, Beatles, Carnaby Street, London swings, Twiggy, Mick and Keith, Mary Quant. Youth did not seek the Yankee culture so much then. That`s all I can face - vast subject - good luck with your homework.

Art, certainly Warhol's, is more of a reflection OF the society than an influence ON a society at large. The Artist might influence other artists in style and content.
Although most art critics refer to Norman Rockwell as more of an illustrator than an artist, his images of American life situations influence our mental picture of what life in the U.S. was during the aforementioned time period..
