What role do ethics play in public service decisions? How important are ethics to a public servant and why?

lets take policemen for example

say theres this hot chick, but she's a suspect in a murder. He may think she's the cutest thing since sliced bread but he has to treat her exactly like every other suspect. He's a servant of the law, and he has to set an example for common citizens.

Ethics are extremely important to a public servant because..just that, they serve the public. They are watched by everyone, and our society depends on them to keep everything running smoothly. To mete out justice when it is due, and to protect the comon citizen

You will need to fill out the proper form in triplicate and submit it to the correct department, who will form a task force and sub-committee to investigate your questions - we should have an answer for you sometime around June 2009 - oh and by the way we are out of those forms so you will have to submit a requisition etc etc etc
