As a fellow Jason e, who happens to have is Ph.D. in cardiovascular physiology, I hate to say your wife is correct in a way. The heart is slightly tilted to the left side, causing the lungs to only have two lobes on the left side while having three on the right.
Most people think it is further on the left side because the left ventricle pumps much harder than the right. This is becasue the right ventricle only needs to pump blood to the lungs, whereas the left ventricle needs enough power to pump blood throughout the whole body.
Take care jason e.
PS, I can assure you it is not close to the stomach. It is in a completely seperate cavity, heart is in the thoracic cavity while the stomach is in the abdominal cavity. Cavities are seperated by the diaphragm.

Your heart is located almost in the center of your chest but most people think it is located on the left side of the chest. You can ask your doctor next time you see him or her. Or check a medical book

RE:
Is your heart located on the left side or middle of your chest?
My wife & I are in a debate over this question. I believe it is located in the middle & swear on it while she says no it's on the left side. Which is it?

Your heart is located between your lungs in the middle of your chest, behind and slightly to the left of your breastbone (sternum). A double-layered membrane called the pericardium surrounds your heart like a sac. The outer layer of the pericardium surrounds the roots of your heart's major blood vessels and is attached by ligaments to your spinal column, diaphragm, and other parts of your body. The inner layer of the pericardium is attached to the heart muscle. A coating of fluid separates the two layers of membrane, letting the heart move as it beats, yet still be attached to your body.

A close call. It's central, but very slightly located to the
left. Unless you're German.

You're both right. The average persons heart is located off centre to the left. Somewhere between centre and your nipple (but slightly higher than nipple)

It is in the center. The left side is the asymmetrical side; puts it toward the left a bit, because that side is the arterial pumping side, then one doing the heavy pumping. So, it is more developed. Listen to your Dr.
