Order of Operations in math - Order of operations is only important when an expression has a symbol for an operation both to its left and to its right.

OR:

BODMAS, it's the way maths works!
When working out maths problems such as 5 + 3 x 2 = it is important that the operations are done in the correct order.

You do not just work from left to right as you would do when reading.

The correct order is :-

Brackets ( )
Operations eg. Square, Square Root etc.
Division /
Multiplication x
Addition +
Subtraction -

So the problem above remember? 5 + 3 x 2 = is
3 Multiplied by 2 = 6

then Add the 5. So the answer is 11

BODMAS stands for Brackets Over Division Addition Multiplication Subtraction.
This is how the computer works out Mathematical problems using this formula.

Hope this has answered your question.

It's actually BoDMAS which represents the order of working on the operations. The "o" makes it a "read-able" word.

o
Divide
Multiply
Add

BODMAS is the order we perform operations in Mathematics when more than one calcultion needs to be done
B - Brackets (expand any brackets first)
O - Of (then eg, half of, quater of etc)
D - Divide
M - Multiply
A - Add
S - Subtract

BODMAS is used in sums which have multiplication, division, brackets, addition, subtraction, and other

it is used in sums with these things because if you do these things in a different order then you would obtain different answers

B= brackets
O= other
D= division
M= multiplication
A= addition
S= subtraction

If you mean "BEDMAS", it is a abreviation commonly used in mathematics to remember the order of operations in math problems. It tells you what to do first when give a problem involving different opperations

B= Brackets
E= Exponents
D= Division
M= Multiplication
A= Addition
S= Subtraction

Hope that helps :)
