It certainly changed the views of those tested who were against immigration in the first place...

This show's findings did not surprise me. Any 13 year old with a bit of common sense knows that there's no such thing as 100% English! I don't understand how any intelligent human being could fail to see that if they have even alittle knowledge of our history. As a mate of mine smartly ponted out elsewhere: if everyone went back to where they came from, the population of Britain would be reduced to... nil. How many pure Anglo-Saxons do you think are left in the UK? Oh, that's right - NONE. Plus, even the Anglo-Saxons weren't 100% British: Saxony is Germany!

Billy Bragg sums it all up in this song, England, Half English.

My mother was half English and I’m half English too
I’m a great big bundle of culture tied up in the red white and blue
I’m a fine example of your Essex man
And I’m well familiar with the Hindustan
Cos my neighbours are half English and I’m half English too

My breakfast was half English and so am I you know
I had a plate of Marmite soldiers washed down with a cappuccino
And I have a veggie curry about once a week
The next day I fry it up as bubble and squeak
Cos my appetites half English and I’m half English too

Dance with me to this very English melody
From morris dancing to Morrissey,
all that stuff came from across the sea

Britannia, she’s half English, she speaks Latin at home
St George was born in the Lebanon, how he got here I don’t know
And those three lions on your shirt,
They never sprang from England’s dirt
Them lions are half English and I’m half English too
Oh my country, what a beautiful country you are

Anyone who argues with that is either an idiot or delusional, because these are FACTS. I've not heard one sensibl argument against what Bragg says there, and I doubt I ever will. He's speaking the truth.

As I have studied archaeology (at university) and history (as a hobby) I have long been interested in my ancestors. I know that I have ancestors from Scandanavia because of a rare tendon disorder I suffer from, given I live in Yorkshire I am almost certain these ancestors were viking settlers from the 9th, 10th or 11th centuries. I also think there may be some Mediterranian blood somewhere in my family and possibly some ancient Briton ancestry in the ancient past. I would love to have a genetic test done like the ones on the show to see how accurate my guesses are (aside from the Viking element which because of the tendon disorder is amost certain).
Anyway I have always been in favour of legal immigrants. We need more people to come and do all the jobs we can't fill with local people. I also love foreign foods, music and films so having a more diverse population allows me to experience a richer life.
As long as somebody can speak good English, is honest and moral, and pays their taxes I can't see why anyone would have a problem with them living here.
I do not like illegal immigrants as they do not help the economy very much and they usually don't speak the language here. They could surely find a legal way to come and train themselves to speak English.

Anyway that is my opinion on that. I thought the show was very interesting - especially that woman who turned out to be a gypsy, and that guy in Lancashire who changed his opinion 100% after his DNA test. I always like shows where people learn something.

Well said. I saw this programme and was amazed that people have so little knowledge of history!

Just a basic point: the first homosapiens are thought to originate from east Africa, in what is known as Ethiopia today, we're basically all descended from the same place anyway to one degree or another!!

I saw it a couple of weeks back. It proves nothing, apart from the fact that, just like every other nation in Europe, its white population is a mixed bag of genes from just about everywhere.

The programme has absolutely nothing to do with the current immigration issue.
Most ppl in britain are aware of their ancestry.
They are also proud of their history and content with our hard fought culture.
Most people arent inherently racist but are defensive when immigrants who wish to destroy our culture and impose sharia law land on our shores by the million.
The programme tried to condescendingly tell us that we are confused ppl ranting about foreign blood when we ourselves are not pure.
The bloodline is irrelevant to the argument, the muslim comes here not as our friend but mostly as our enemy
