If you are having a formal wedding with a sit down dinner, I think it would be a little odd to have fast food served for the dinner. I have a couple of suggestions: 1. Have it for the rehearsal dinner. Rent out a hall or do it at your house and order KFC for that. 2. Ask the reception hall if they will allow you to have it brought in as a late night snack. I work at a banquet hall that does weddings, and today a bride asked if they could do that. Her fiance loves Portillos hot dogs (if you're not from Chicago, you probably have never heard of them, but they're famous around here). She said she was at a wedding where they brought in Portillos around 10:00, well after the dinner, for a late night "snack" for the guests. I thought it was a cute idea...I have yet to hear back from the owner to find out if he's okay with it.

It depends completely of the sort of people the family members are. Would they appreciate it and have a good hearty laugh and feel warm-hearted, or would they just be like "WTF, was the bride raised with no etiquette?"

Even if you know your husband's immediate family and that they would be okay with it, make sure to consult with him and make sure Grandma and twice-removed cousin Alice will also understand the gesture of KFC bowls.

Doing something wacky to acknowledge a sort of intimate understanding between family is an excellent gesture. However, if you've misjudged and not everyone is "tuned in", it'll just be interpreted as poor taste.

if you want an excuse to get out of your wedding then yeah sure, since it will most likely give you food poisoning. But if you want a definite chance of getting out of your wedding just go to taco bell (many in my area are closed because of cases of food poisoning)
