Green Day underreated?

Question

People always seem to be very snobbish about green day dismissing them as nothing but a psuedo punk manufactured pop band. I think people are forgetting that green day practically invented thier sound and despite becoming popular in recent years have maintained thier artistic freedom and always done what they wanted. I think anybody who says green day are just a boy band who wear different clothes should listen to Smoothed out Slappy Hours or Insomniac before making judgements. Sorry for ranting but elitist d***head music snobs p*** me off. What do you think about how green day are percieved?

I totally agree with you! I love Green Day.I am so obsession with Green Day I only listen to Green Day.I have all of there albums,EP's and singles.I have most of there b-sides.I know all the lyrics to all of there songs.I even have The Network which is really Green Day in disguise.

I personally have been a very big fan of green day since way before they took off a couple of years ago. I know as sure as I am sitting here they will be one of those bands that everyone will always talk about. They have there own sound and there own style and I love it!! I hate people that judge them only its because of them that music is the way that is today...or least they played a part!! They will be around a lot longer then a lot of the bands that are popular today!!

I used to love Green Day as a kid, and their new CD was great until it became overplayed and overliked. Their songs also got old fast, which seems to always happen to me and mainstream songs. =/ If anything, they're just a bit overrated.
Personally I agree that Green Day has become a mainstream influenced band that changed their sound to appeal to the masses, but that doesn't mean that they still aren't a decent band. Their old stuff was great, their new stuff was okay, but I'd rather listen to something with a lot more depth.

I think it is wrong...because Green Day did help invent the time of punk rock they sing...they rule...not only are they pretty faces...they have outlasted a lot of bands...a bad band doesn't do that...they are one of the best in their genre...I don't think ppl should be looking down on them so much...they aren't sell outs and they do not suck!!! They have amazing lyrics and meaningful ones too...if you listen to the right song...I mean come on! If you can think of a better punk band that has lasted as long as they have, let me know!

Underrated lol pppppffffff, I like punk, rock, alternative, metal, and classical.

BUT!!!

Green day is OVERrated, they are a terrible band and need to stop preaching as if they have authority over actual voters. They annoy me to no end. Invented their sound.... Are you Greenday's Manager..? WTF, do you know anyhting about music, can you even play an instrument? Have you studied music theory? I can and I have, and no they did NOT invent their sound.

But mainly don't worry about what other people think, I hate them lol, does that matter, no. The only time our opinion matters and becomes fact is when we say we hate rap, because Rap sucking is a fact not an opinion.

If you like them that is all that matters, do you really need to feel as if you are a part of a larger group of people who all share the admiration of a single entity (the band) in order to feel special, if so that is sad, maybe you should listen to emo lol.

I totally agree with you...I think people are so into the pop/rock stuff these days that they forget about the authentic groups like Green Day... I really dont think they're a boy band because..theres only 3 of them..and their music sounds GOOD!!

They got a good sound, but I'm a Heavy Metal fan, so I really don't listen to them much. They aren't a bad band, just not one of my favorites. Now if someone talked down about Iron Maiden or Megadeth, I'd be all over them like flies on $h!t.

I'm a HUGE Green Day fan, so i know what you mean and it really p i s s e s me off, cuz not only does green day get crap i get it to just for liking them! your right they do have they're own sound, and sometimes the change it up a bit...it doesn't make them sell outs...or a boy band. i love them to death, and i probably always will. i agree with you 100%. those people piss me off too. i really dont understand why they dont like American Idiot, i think its pretty stupid that their excuse is that they are now sell outs. hello, its still good music, we have nothing to complain about as long as they are still giving us good music, and i have to admit i love the old music, such as kerplunk, dookie, insomniac, 1,039 smoothed out slappy hours, and so on and so forth, but i like the new green day too. and i hate the stupid fags who dont like them for the way they dress, thats messed up, i mean, why does it matter how they dress? if they have good music i dont really care if they dress horribly. but i like the way they dress, whats so wrong with wearing all black? black is an awesome color. but anyway, and they are hott dont get me wrong they are, but they have been around forever and have outlasted tons of bands who have came and gone while green day has been out. thats pretty darn good. in my opinion. i think those people just need to shut the heck up and go on listening to their messed up music, or whatever they call it.



oh and green day is the whole reason i got into listening to punk and rock music. and i dont care what people say about just getting into green day during american idiot, i did that. but i mean its not a big deal, i liked american idiot so much i went out and got their other albums and absolutly love them. they are awesome. so if it wasnt for green day i dont know what i would be listening to now, they rock. and always will.
