Ok IM kinda in a funk..I cannot get into the holiday spirit. I just watched someone take somthing out of a persons shopping cart cause there was no more in stock. Peoplescream at each other in the parking lot in the mall. some say its all about Jesus, But Christmas was made up by some bishop, because the "pagans "he was trying to convert had a similar holiday. With everyone worried about money, what to buy, how much to buy, and not caring about each other how can I get into the spirit???
Am I just being a Scrooge???

Christmas is about the giving. Help out a soup kitchen, collect toys for Toys for Tots, visit a nursing home, just to visit and spend time with someone. If you focus too much on the material stuff, you'll get down every time. Think outside yourself, and ignore the rude selfcentered people.

Not at all.
St. Nicholas's feast was today. He was a kind Bishop.
As the short story of this Saint Nicholas reads he cared for the poor and is regarded as the special patron of children, and our well-known Santa Claus is a corruption of St. Nicholas who lived in the 4th century.
I had a motorist yell behind me "You'll have to walk faster.
I thought it was a friend joking and waved only to see an angry stanger whipping into Tim Horton's behind me. I was taken by surprise. I didn't know they made people that ignorant. I always
thought a pedestrian had the right of way on the side walk. I'm not
getting any younger but when one yieds for me I put a move on.
If I'd known this was an ignoramous I'd have let out a load of unprintable language I haven't used in a long time. This was a week ago and I still get annoyed with myself that he got away with it.

Hey Growler.........I'm with you on this one.

I used to work myself into a "Bah Humbug" mood every year for exactly the reasons you've described here.

Then I realised that Christmas isn't about all these other people you don't care about - its about you, your family and your friends. Its also about helping other people less fortunate than you (your answer above about working in a soup kitchen is spot on).

Accept the fact that 99% of people are greedy and materialistic, but recognise that you don't have to be like that and you'll feel the Christmas spirit.

Here's a thing - I get a real buzz being able to spend a lot of time with my friends over Christmas. For the rest of the year we are all busy with our work and our lives, but this time of the year we come together and party !!!

Hi there! :) I hope you start feeling better soon!

Christmas is definitely about Jesus. Just look at the name of the holiday: Christ-mas. It's a celebration of Christ's birthday, and one of the many ways you can get into the spirit of Christmas is to learn more about its historical significance. Just think, time was split on the very first Christmas -- it was because of Jesus' birthday that the A.D. era began.

Obviously, this was a big event, that brought about big changes in the world. I'd recommend that you read some of the Bible to get a detailed bckground on the holiday. It won't take long, but it will give you an understanding of what Christmas is really about:

Here's a link to the book of Matthew:

Below, I'm posting some of my favourite quotes by Jesus, I hope you enjoy them! :)

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."

"If anyone compels you to go one mile, go with him two miles."

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

almost every holiday(christmas being the worst though) has become superficial,

Christmas- decorations in stores,(sometimes stereotypical) the obligations of buying people gifts

Valentines day- decorations in stores, obligations of buying gifts and cards for friends and spouses/partners

Halloween- decorations in stores, buying loads of candy and costumes while people go thru all trouble to steal each other's candy.... sigh..it's JUST candy....

Easter- decorations in stores, buying eggs and things for entertainment when the true meaning of the holiday is religious
(Who created the easter bunny anyways...?he doesn't do abything special...)

And havent you noticed something familiar with all these holidays??
STORES and BUYING
businesses and the media are the ones to give a blame to, selling all these inanamit objects to satisfy us with the "true" meaning of each holiday. If we didn't have to worry about buying all this crap for holidays none of these problems would be happening.

Well, people have gotten so caught up in the gift-giving that they forgot the only reason we celebrate Christmas in the first place. I can understand how it would affect your mood. Just, don't let things like this hurt your Christmas spirit. We have to take a stand and re-teach to people the true meaning of Christmas ;) Have a very merry Christmas!!!

Your just disgusted by the commercialism & greediness Christmas can create in people, look beyond that to see the glory of it & the beauty..To get myself out of a slump I simply think about the children & their undying love of the mystic way Christmas affects them..=)

No you don't like the commericialism part of Christmas. People are more ruder now then before with Christmas. I would rather it be not a National Holiday anymore but, a Holiday that you have a choice to celebrate it.

Remember that Scrooge turned himself around at the end. Do something nice for someone else and help yourself. Hold open a door, say please and thank-you to the store clerks, donate pet food to a shelter or socks to a homeless shelter. What goes around comes around.

nope. you have a right to be that way. it's supposed to be about love and joy in honor of Jesus, but many people just use that as an excuse to get others to talk about how good they are or so that they can get new things that they want.
