You'll never know until you try. It hurts more for some people than for other. Some people dance en ponte for years, some give up on the idea. It depends a lot on the natural shape of your foot, on your shoes, on how ready you are. I think you should try it, and then decide. I would definitely try it if I could.

Only you can decide if it's worth it. If your instructor has asked you to consider it, you obviously are strong enough and have a solid foundation of ballet to support going en pointe.
It will hurt somewhat until your feet get calloused enough not to get so many blisters. You will earn to take care of your feet, soak them in epsom salts and alum, stretch them often, and wrap your toes in lamb's wool or use an ouch pouch-maybe along with the lamb's wool. Get advice from your teacher and from older more experienced students who have been dancing en pointe for a while.
If you love ballet, it is worth trying. You can always stop after a period of trying it. Just make sure you give your feet enough time to toughen up and strengthen up a bit. If you only try it for a couple of months, that is not a long enough time to really get your feet accustomed to dancing en pointe. Try it for a year or year and a half and then evaluate.
I hope this helps you.

This is probably going to seem really obvious but it'll depend on a lot of different factors, like if you have a high instep or not and what your pointe shoes are like. It will probably hurt a lot to begin with though.

I was in Pointe for many years and I loved it. But, it did do a number on my feet. My toes bleed every night after class and I now have Bunions. My Dr told me the Bunions are partly heredity and partly from Pointe. So, it's your choice....have fun if you do take the class though..it's a blast!

I used to date a ballerina. She said it wasn't painful after a few months, but....the things it did to her toes....ughh. I still shudder.
