Now, don't hate me here for what I'm about to say... I do think that religion does help some people relax and deal with life more. It takes some stress out of life to know that someone up there is watching him/her... I don't know what else to say about it though...

It's considered that because most religions just tickle people's ears. They figure that if people are told what they want to hear, they'll blindly follow. Unfortunately sometimes it's true. Governments used to use religion as a way of containing the masses and soothing fears.

It certainly seems to cloud the intelligence of quite a few people. I don't think it's the religion per se, so much as the articles of belief of the person in question.

it is an extension of what most other ideologies are, and a direct result of our conciousness. milosz said it best: "conciousness does not help them to shed their bonds, on the contrary, it forges them."
