Interesting question, but there's some people i've come across in my life who you would have thought to be complete assholes by their outward actions, but completely compassionate and caring deep down when it came to emotional and sensitive issues. In other words,a jerk with a kind heart. What is the psychology of this type of behavior?

Maybe they're so kind inside, they have to act like a jerk on the outside so they don't get hurt, or no one finds out the real them. Like a front to everyone else except for the people they know.

i have friends that lots of people dont like because by looking at them they seem mean.... and they're a bunch of rowdy guys... but once u get to know them, and they like you, they'd do ANYTHING to protect you!!

That's me, more or less. Judging by my behavior in all trivial matters, you'd think I was a complete jackass, but when it comes to the important things, I become almost unrecognizably kind and empathic.

I spent a long time being a sweet, gentle person, and it made me fairly useful to people, but entirely disposable. People like me a lot more when I'm an asshole. They think I'm funnier, more interesting, and they're a lot less likely to expect any sort of submissive behavior from me. Antagonism is unfortunately the only way I know to be assertive and keep people's attention. However, when people I care about need me, I see no reason to hide my base nature.

That's why they are called complex. Its very difficult to break down how they think because they have a lot of complexity within their heads that would take a long and tiring time to unwind...trust me I've tried to unwind my sisters complex "pyscho-ness" and its just not worth it and gives me a headache..i just figured that for complex people you have to sometimes just keep things simple.

we all have our "outward faces". fronts that we put on because perhaps we don't know how to deal with the world.

maybe they've been told they're weak in the past so they over-compensate.

It can drive people away, but eventually/hopefully they will learn.

Society scoffs people who reveal their vulnerable inner self. So, they invent a non-chalant outer self to deal with society
