We never had a lot when I was growing up,but Christmas was always the magical time. We learned later that my Dad always saved his vacation time so he could cash it in at Christmas. We still only got around 2-3 gifts a piece, but the food and the parties were something else. FUN FUN FUN!!!. Family came over and we went to visit family. Our house was always filled with laughter. And the snow,it was beautiful. I still celebrate the same way to this day. Not a lot of gifts, but fun, food and family. Plenty of each. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

We lived in a tiny city, and if there was snow the three of us, kids, would walk down to where they sold trees; my father would pull the tree back on a sled. It felt like a big hike, but now that I'm big I realize it was only about a mile or so.

Also, Christmas Eve we'd put up the tree and have a whole bunch of wrapping and baking being done (as an adult, I wouldn't be able to stand waiting until the last minute to get this stuff done; but the fact that my mother operated this way created atmosphere for us as children). Someone would always put on the radio station that tracked Santa too. The excitement that Santa was coming was probably the biggest thing, although it wasn't about the "fact" that Santa would be bringing stuff. It was about the magic of it all. The new pajamas and slippers that were an essential part of Christmas Eve made it nice too. One year we actually saw Santa Claus on the front porch of the people four houses down. We were told that he had apparently arrived in a Ford because there was no snow on the city sidewallks. It was so exciting and, for some reason, apparently believable!!! :)

As an adult, I place a lot of emphasis on having a certain set of things going on and a certain set of smells and atmosphere that creates some version of that "magical thing" because I've grown up seeing those things as the important things about Christmas.

My favorite memories of Christmas as a child have to be the ones involving all my family being together. I remember sitting on the stairs looking out into the living room, just watching and listening to every interacting...they were so happy!

My favorite memory of Christmas wasn't as a child, it was when I was 32yrs old. My mother had made the comment that never have we {her kids} not gotten everything we ever asked for on birthdays or Christmas. Which for the most part was true. However I had always wanted one of those cheap toy pottery wheels and my sister always wanted one of those toy rock tumblers, which we reminded her of. So in 2002 when we were opening our gifts guess what our mom had bought her now 32 and 33 yr old daughters. A toy pottery wheel and a rock tumbler! She laughed and told us we could never again tell her we hadn't always gotten everything we ever asked for. That's also my last Christmas memory of my mother

Going to see Santa at Gilmore's and having him call both my parents by name and my grand parents! He HAD to be the Real Santa! Also, the year I woke up to find sleigh and deer tracks in the yard, and foot prints up to our door.
