I heard this one from my uncle:
Say the person they wanted to talk to just drove to the store to get some bread/milk and will be home really soon, so put the phone down and check up on it in a while and say in about 5 minutes he/she will be back.

You could also use the bathroom approach, He/she just went to the bathroom and will be back shortly. Eventually the sales person will get too grossed out, or get tired of waiting.

Shutdown their database of recipients. The guy who lives next-door to me was arrested for that. He payed a large fine, but telemarketers haven't bothered him again.

too funny. We have them call over and over at our office. They act like we buy supplies for them and they'll ask the serial number of our copier, etc. We tell them it was stolen. Not the copier, just the serial number.

You should read Carl Hiaasen's book "Nature Girl". I'm reading it now - he is so funny, and this one is about revenge on a telemarketer.

I like to put the telephone receiver down somewhere and let them talk to the dead air. Eventually they start trying to raise your attention; then the light comes on, they realize what's going on, they hang up and rarely -if ever- call back

When they have that little gap of time before they speak, I say "Sorry, if you can't be there when I answer the phone, then I don't have time for you." But one time it wasn't a telemarketer. Ooops!

I usually hung up the phone or said the person is not here at the moment but the person below went out on his way to screw them up real good. I like it.

Actually just quickly ask them to hold then set phone down...If you have hold button on phone it even works better ... You can ask to be put on a do not call list doesn't always work because it depends where call center is

well here's a couple of favorites from my friends:

-act sexy (ask out)
-fake death (gunshot, heart attack, loss of breath..etc)
-act on drugs or drunk
-lecture them not to do it again (Must be long and rude)
-repeatedly swear
-try to sell them something (use competitor)
-talk as if they were somebody else ie: friend, famous person.
-act as robot (or answering machine)
-act as a guy in foreign country (india, china..etc)
-just blow in the speaker
-act as police
-sing terribly
-propose
-start an arguement

I'm sure there are more.
