Running or jogging for 3 straight miles is not the same as running up and down a basketball ct. Do basketall windsprints, or suicides if you know what those are. Or, you can run stadium step if you have access to some somewhere.

Your running 3 miles is aerobic activity, meaning with oxygen. Your basketball is an anaerobic activity meaning without oxygen.
You need to increase your anaerobic threshold or the point at which you become fatigued due to lack of oxygen. Mix up your mileage days with some speed workouts on the track.

If you haven't played a ton of bball, or don't play often, repetition could be your problem. Basketball is a series of short sprints. Maybe try to incorporate speed workouts, this should help you out. Basketball shape doesn't equal Endurance. Good Luck. TM

you need to do speed work and hill sprints to strengthen your heart and you have to train year round not just during the season. Don't be like Shaq and start getting in shape on the preseason games and hope to be ready by playoffs. also remember one pound of fat turns into four pounds when you run. Speed work works great I have to start doing it so I can get my speed up for trail runs

When you are running for long distences, you will not get tired because your hear will not increase heart rate, but if you are under stress or in a game, your heart rate will increase faster, making you get out of breath faster.

Try to combine cardio and anaerobic conditioning while you determine, take a look at strolling a lap round your regional monitor and cycling two laps. Then leisure for five - 10 mins. And preserve repeating.
